Philadelphia-born Katherine Moennig began her interest in performing arts at age 10, appearing in the school production of “Winnie the Pooh.” After high school, she moved to New York at age 18 and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. During this time, Katherine Moennig worked as a model and performed on stage on productions such as “As You Like It.” In 1999, she made her screen debut in a music video for Our Lady of Peace’s song “Is Anybody Home.”

Katherine Moennig landed her debut movie in the 2000 film “The Ice People.” However, she received her first major role in the TV series “Young Americans,” playing Jacqueline ‘Jake’ Pratt for several episodes. After appearing in the 2001 movies “Slo-Mo” and “Love the Hard Way,” Katherine Moennig found more work on television, including a guest appearance on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.” Also in 2001, Katherine had a role in the movie adaptation of “The Shipping News,” which starred Julianne Moore and Kevin Spacey.

In 2004, Katherine Moennig had a role in the movie “Invitation to a Suicide.” That same year, she landed her breakthrough role on the hit Showtime lesbian-themed series “The L Word.” From season 1 to its final season (6), Katherine Moennig played the role of Shane McCutcheon, a sexually aggressive hairstylist. Although her character’s egotistic personality showed up during the show’s first seasons, Moennig’s character and its respective storylines became one of the viewers’ favorites by the end of the show.

While on ‘The L Word,’ Katherine Moennig also appeared in the 2006 movie “Art School Confidential,” where she played the lesbian artist named Candace. Also in 2006, Katherine made her Off-Broadway debut in the Peter Morris production of “Guardians” and became a presenter for the 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Moennig then went back to the small screen in 2008 with a guest appearance on “CSI: Miami,” where she played a suspect named Mary Landis.

In 2009, Katherine Moennig won a spot on the new CBS medical drama “Three Rivers.” On the show, which first aired on October 4, 2009, Moennig plays Dr. Miranda Foster whose excellent surgical reputation make up for her rebellious personality and fiery temper.
